Introducing
Martha’s Vineyard Sexual Wellness, Inc.

We are proud to announce an important evolution in our organization’s identity. After 40 years of service under the name Friends of Family Planning, we are now Martha’s Vineyard Sexual Wellness, Inc. This new name reflects the broader scope of support we offer and our commitment to promoting inclusive, comprehensive sexual health and wellness for the island community.

Honoring Our History
Our work began when the island’s Family Planning Clinic faced closure due to lack of funding. In response, a group of dedicated community members came together to raise the necessary support, and Friends of Family Planning was born. Since then, we have remained steadfast in our mission, ensuring continued funding for the clinic—now operated by Health Imperatives—so that reproductive health services remain accessible on Martha’s Vineyard.

Why We’re Evolving
Over the decades, the needs of our community have grown, and so has our vision. While reproductive health remains a vital component of what we support, we recognize that sexual wellness encompasses much more. It includes not only physical care but also emotional, mental, educational, and social well-being. Our new name reflects a more inclusive and holistic approach to community health.

Our Expanded Mission
As Martha’s Vineyard Sexual Wellness, Inc., we continue to uphold the values and purpose that have guided us for four decades. We now focus on five key pillars that shape our work:

• Access to Sexual Wellness Services:
  Supporting organizations that provide equitable access to essential care.

• Sexual Health Education:
  Promoting understanding, comfort, and informed decision-making through education.

• Community Advocacy:
  Raising awareness and advocating for sexual wellness initiatives across the island.

• Collaboration:
  Working alongside trusted island partners to extend our impact and resources.

• Funding Support:
  Providing grants and funding to sustain and grow sexual wellness programs.

What This Means Going Forward
Our name has changed, but our commitment remains stronger than ever. All current programs and partnerships will continue uninterrupted. Looking ahead, we are dedicated to expanding our outreach, deepening community education, and supporting services that promote sexual wellness for all islanders.
